3 Easy Steps to Plan Your Apartment Transfer

If you live in an apartment complex and you’re happy with the community, but you want to relocate into a different apartment, consider transferring apartments. Moving from one apartment to another within the same apartment community may not be as stressful as moving to a completely new location. However, a transfer can still come with stresses. With these three steps, you can make transfers between apartments an easy and stress-free experience.

Plan Ahead

One of the easiest ways to make a smooth transition from one apartment to another is to plan ahead. Decide how much space you need and check to see if there are any apartments within your community that can accommodate your needs. Take into consideration the amount of living space and storage space you will need. Talk with your landlord or the rental manager of your apartment community to inquire about any available properties. Don’t wait until the last minute to plan your apartment transfer; start planning as far in advance as possible to make the transfer as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Policies

Don’t just assume that you’re apartment community allows transfers; check to make sure. If your community does allow transfers, discuss the policies of a transfer. For example, inquire if your current security deposit will transfer to the new apartment or if you will need a new one. You should also check to see if the policies on the lease for the new apartment are the same as the policies for the lease for the old apartment. Checking to see if the rent due-dates and policies for paying the rent are the same is something else you’ll want to ensure.

Transfer Your Utilities

Instead of canceling the existing utilities you have set up in your current apartment, check to see if you can simply transfer utility services to the apartment you are transferring to. Utilities such as cable, Internet, electric and telephone may be able to be transferred from one unit to another. This will save you the trouble of having to terminate them only to have them turned on under a different account. You will likely find that many utility providers will simply transfer the information on your existing account directly over to your new apartment; particularly if you are moving such a short distance. An added bonus; you’ll probably be able to keep your current phone number and you won’t have to learn new account numbers when paying those bills.

Planning a transfer between apartments in baltimore can be a pain-free experience; if you take the time to follow some easy steps.
